Your Answers

Wow...this was not only a fun exercise, but interesting too...I find it amusing that SO many people want to know how O and I met etc....so here are the answers to what YOU wanted to know.

Travel Girl, Fidgeting Gidget, Amy, Emily & Em (private blog) all wanted to know (1) how O and I met, how long we dated and how he proposed.
O and I met in 2001 when I moved to a ridiculously small town (in the US) on the US/Mexico border to work for Motorola (in Mexico). He grew up in this sad, sad, sad, pathetic little town where we met on a co-ed softball team.

We dated for 3.5 years until I left AZ and moved to Dallas. While we were "broken up" we remained in touch and saw each other a few times each year. He claimed that he couldn't live without me and for some reason (unbeknownst to me now) I agreed to him moving to TN to be together. I had relocated out here to be near the parents and start the Grad School program and there was NO way I was moving back to god-forsaken town he lived in. 3.5 years there was 3.5 too many.

The proposal was lame-o-rama and lacked any romance whatsoever. Call me cheesy, but I wanted to have the proposal put on a jumbo-tron at a baseball game...I LOVE BASEBALL (and miss MLB games..bad!) Anyway, the closest park is Turner Field in ATL and supposedly his sister called for him (doubtful!) and they said that they do not do that. So he resorted to officially proposing in the busiest area of Turner Field in front of the Souvenir Shop and restaurants. A few people stopped when they saw him get down on his knee and we heard clapping, but I was so embarrassed that I grabbed him and ran to our seats.

Maybe I should have just said it was an arranged marriage, huh?

Novelista Barista wanted to know the 5 most spontaneous/crazy things I have done so far in my life...
Wow, I'm probably severely lacking in this area as I am a big planner. I love spontaneity but there is always some planning that goes into it. (1) I once quit a job w/o having another lined up and it was a sort of last minute decision and well, crazy too. (2) while visiting friends in Mexico, I decided I had allotted too many days to the city and was aching to get to the beach so I went to the nearest travel agency and booked a flight on a puddle jumper to Ixtapa, Mexico leaving just a day or two later. (3) and well, I guess i'm not very spontaneous because I cannot think of anything else right now.

Beth wanted to know (1) if I was a good student, (2) who was my favorite teacher & why and (3) what inspired me to go back to school to become a school counselor.
I was an average student, nothing exciting, i got mostly B's, so I guess that actually makes me above average but sadly nothing great enough to get scholarships or any sort of recognition. I did have perfect attendance in 7th grade though...does that count?

My favorite teacher was probably Ms. Farragher in 4th grade. I'm not sure really why, but I remember her being rather nice and I have no scary memories of her. Can't recall any high school teachers really making an impact on me.

I decided to go back to graduate school after being layed off from Motorola and then spending 1 year in Dallas working for Pepsi in a unappreciated and dead-end job which thereby only enhanced my great disgust for all things Corporate America. I started out seeking my degree in Mental Health Counseling since my undergrad is in Psychology. Only 6 months prior to being layed off by Motorola I had built a house, so I was stuck in uber-rural Arizona and forced to find SOME sort of job. There were very few jobs (to say the least) & I ended up working at the community mental health agency...for a very, very, very, sad salary. Since I enjoyed the work, I decided to further my education so as to better my pathetic salary in the field. I just recently changed to the School Counseling program which is virtually seem less as the two programs are nearly identical. My reasons for changing are (1) working on a school schedule and being off when E is off, (2) school counselors make more $$ than mental health agency workers and if someday I should want to work in an agency (which I do NOT foresee happening) I can do that with a degree in School Counseling, but you can't work in a school with a Mental Health Counseling degree.

Dawn wants to know (1) If E had been a girl, what would he (she) have been named?
Riley Alexis

(2) What single attraction are you most looking forward to when you're at WDW in March?

Oh boy, this is difficult because it's been 9 years since I've been there so I know LOTS has changed, but I think my answer is really just being in the environment. There really is a sort of "magic" there and I want nothing more but to stand on Main Street USA and gaze at Cinderella's Castle and just take it all in. I.Cannot.Wait!!!

(3) Minus all the promiscuity, which of the S&TC girls do you identify with the most? OK, this is another tough one because I think I'm a combination of all three except Charlotte. I'm fiercely independent in a Miranda kind of way, wanting to have a career and make her own money & I also didn't want a lot of frilly stuff in my wedding, although it wasn't as 'plain' as Miranda's. I'm a little bit Carrie in relation to the dating woes & frustrations, although I certainly did not date anywhere close to the number of guys that she did. And as for Samantha, she ends up man-less in the end and honestly, I think I will too...and I'm SO alright with that. I will say though that I'm not as "in-love" with myself as Samantha claims to be, but I certainly do value my alone-time.

(4) What city that you've never been to before would you most like to visit? Why?
I'm very interested in visiting Vancouver. I have family there and my mom has been there quite a few times so I'm always hearing about how neat it is. On the same trip, I'd like to check out Seattle too as it seems to have ALOT of cool stuff, Pike Place included.

for the love of pictures has a 2-parter: Part 1: If I could travel back to one point in my own past, where (or is it when) would I go?
I would go back to high school. 9th grade to be exact.

Part 2: While there, would I change anything or just re-live the day/moment making all the same choices?
I would change ALOT & make a lot of difference choices. I would study a whole lot harder. I would join the swim team and I would spend a whole lot of time and effort further honing my softball skills and then figure out how to get scouted so that I could play at the college level.

RxBambi wants to know how I keep running when I really want to stop yet am still not close to my goal.
Oh I hate that feeling, but what I do to keep going is say things to myself like "Just go 2 more minutes" and then when I get thru those 2 minutes, I usually feel better and if I don't then I'll walk for a minute or so in order to rest and then start running again. I make small goals. It always feels better to reach my goal than to quit early...I'd only be cheating myself. I do a lot of self talk when it comes to running...that and the $140 I forked over for the 1/2 marathon race in March...that's motivation for sure....oh yeah and then there's the $200 I've also forked out for the hotel room reservation...so I'm definitely committed at this point.

Vancouver's Enviro Girl wants to know why I like to blog and why I started my blog.
I don't know why I originally started my blog. I guess it seemed like "the thing" to do (1st blog created in 2004) and once I started I was hooked and it became sort of therapeutic for me. I love it now because it's been a great way to meet people and then hopefully one day meet them in real life. I know more about my blog friends than I ever have of the friends I've had over the years. Weird, but cool.

Lolit
wants to know if I want anymore kids.
No. I'm on the "one and done" plan. Was that always my plan? No. But I *AM* almost 38 years old.

Moonjava wants to know what is the most darndest thing that E has done.
Well, he's only 17 months old so it hasn't been too awful yet, but I'm sure he'll do plenty of things that will embarrass me or completely freak me out as time goes by. Right now the biggest thing is that he refuses to ride in shopping carts, either in the front or in the bigger part in back and so, that means no more leisurely trips to Target for me and I think twice before running out with him to pick up one or two things. If I let him run free through the stores, well, I'll let you use your imagination on how well that turns out for me.

Em also wanted to know why I shut down my first (and 2nd) blogs.
Basically because I am a whimp and didn't like getting the nasty comments I used to get. I suspect I know who most of them were from, but I could never really pinpoint it, even with using StatCounter or other related programs. I started my first blog while living in Texas in 2004 and probably shared the web address with too many people which led to receiving said nasty comments. I quickly went into blog withdrawal and started up blog #2 just a few weeks later, only to shut it down for the same reason. Blog #3/current blog started out as "private" just over 2 years ago and now I'm back to being out in public and things are much better, but I'm also avoid using my name or too many self descriptors, however I do put up pictures...so we'll see how long the nasty comments stay away. So far, so good.

Rachel wants to know what my most honest and truthful piece of advice about life would be?
don't settle. you can apply that to any facet of your life that you would like.

Optimistic Pessimist wants to know if I am nervous about meeting certain blog friends at WDW?
No. I am not nervous. I am SUPER EXCITED and cannot wait! I think meeting at WDW is the icing on the cake too!! Fun will be had BY ALL!!!

What are your expectations for meeting your blogger friends?
I have no expectations. I consider myself to be an accepting person (I am going to be a counselor, you know?!) and so I take every one as they are. I just hope everyone gets along and we all have a great time.

What do you thing they'll be like?
LOTS OF FUN!!! with a little crazy on the side.

Spudballoo wants to know when I blog?
Typically I blog from work (gasp!) because I have nearly NOTHING to do, or I prefer to blog over my work duties. I occasionally blog @ night after E goes to bed or sometimes he'll happily play in my office at home and I'll blog a bit then. So, I guess I blog at all times of the day and in various locations. I've been known to blog from bed with my laptop too.

How do I find the time?
I squeeze it in somehow. And I probably put off things that should be tended to, but E is clean & fed, my house is clean and my laundry is done, so that's really all that matters, right?

Do I comment on the blogs I follow, or am I a reader and runner?

I comment on MOST of the blogs I follow, as long as I feel that I have something to say. If I find that I'm not commenting or interested in the blog posts, I end up deleting the blog from my reader.

Thanks to all who participated!

Friday 5

This week’s 5 is inspired by the party game called Taboo, in which players must make their teammates utter key words by giving them clues. The twist is that each key word is assigned five Taboo words, and players are forbidden from using the Taboo words in their clues. For example, one key word might be milk, and its Taboo words might be dairy, cow, drink, white, and carton. Your clue might be something like, “It’s a beverage from Bessie,” or “You add it to coffee,” or “The land of BLANK and honey,” or “It comes out of breasts.”

Your task is simply to answer these five questions without using any of the Taboo words or phrases. Challenge yourself not just to avoid using the words, but to think of fresh, new answers to these sort of cliched meme questions!

Who’s making a positive difference in your life?

Taboo words: friends, family, husband/wife/spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend.

the little guy that lives in my house. he is making me a better (and sometimes more patient) person.

Where would you like to be right now?
Taboo words: home, bed, anywhere but here.

on.the.beach.

What’s the first thing you’d do with a $5,000 (or your local equivalent) gift?
Taboo words: save, debt, vacation, payments, invest.

i would send some of it to certain companies so that they quit sending me paper in the mail every month. i would also get myself an iPhone and pay for the first year of service in advance, if that were possible.

What super-power would you really like to have?
Taboo words: invisibility, x-ray vision, flying, strength, transform.

the ability to know if someone was lying to me, so I could call them out on it right then and there. and then beat the crap outta them.

What’s your favorite sound?
Taboo words: laughter, music, ocean, wind, ____’s voice.

jimmy buffett.

ask away!!

A current trend that I've noticed in the blogosphere has been a question/answer session, where you as the blog reader(s) ask the blog owner (me) questions....so, I say, let's try it...ask me anything you want to know and I'll answer them in a later post...albeit as long as it's info I am "ok" with sharing.

So post your questions in the comments...hopefully I haven't already divulged all interesting information about myself and have left you with *something* to ask...

to do list

things I need to do this afternoon:

1. stop @ office supply store & buy LASER photo paper to test new printer. not sure it's worth $$ or the hassle though?!?!

2. print photo on new printer & decide whether it's worth keeping. color looked WAY off yesterday & i'm not up for fiddling around with all the color settings. if it's not 'up & running' out of the box, then I don't want it.

3. try one more time to get cardstock to go through printer and also try again to figure out how to print envelopes on above mentioned (PITA) printer. it should NOT be *this* difficult.

4. when above test fails, pack up new printer back into box.

5. set up old printer.

6. put new printer in car to return on Thursday morning.

7. re-kindle my love affair with the easy-to-use, yet slow, wet ink of my InkJet printer

8. dinner for E and me. (babysitter is cooking for us-yay)

9. bath for E.

10. bedtime for E.

11. run on treadmill.

12. CRASH into bed. *yawn*

customer service EXTINCT!!

~the good ol' days of customer service are no more. at least for me.

~i have had 2 VERY BAD (lack of) customer service experiences in the past 5 days. WTH?

~incident #1 occurred on Friday night @ Verizon. I have come to find out that the Verizon "store" in the mall is not actually owned by Verizon, but is actually an Authorized Reseller. I have never been treated so rudely, this guy was a complete a-hole, never smiled, never asked "can I help you?" and in the end told us as many lies as it would take so that we would fork over money for a new phone.

~O's phone got water logged, so we needed a replacement. my neighbor got a Blackberry so she gave us her old phone for O to use. we just wanted the number transferred over. the rep was immediately annoyed at our request and told us it was $30. I had this done a little over a year ago and it was $20...so I guess the price went up, but I tend to think that he tacked on an extra $10 for his pocket. he was just *that* kind of slimey.

~we ended up not doing that as neither O nor I were crazy about him using the neighbor's phone. she didn't say she was "giving" it to us, but just that we could use it in the mean-time. she wanted to sell it (for the whopping $10-15 that you get from those buy-old-phone places) well O is pretty hard on his phones, so it really wasn't the best option.

~O ended up with a new phone, however, his line was the only one on our 4-line family plan (with mom and stepdad) that was not eligible for an upgrade. So now the dilemma was using an upgrade from another line (mine). I didn't care so much about the upgrade EXCEPT that it extends the contract for another 2 years...and NOT O's line, but MY line. The reason I am/was so opposed to that is that I want to get an iPhone when my contract is up in November.

~Slimey Rep said he would call Verizon and see if they can extend O's line instead of mine and that they have done it for him before. (LIE). E was with us and was running out of patience as this whole process was going on 45-60 minutes by now. I left the store and left O to finish.

~guess who's line got extended? I was furious when I rec'd an email on Sunday from Verizon saying "We are so excited to continue to provide your service" or some other crap like that. I think smoke came out of my ears, you know like on the cartoons. Just like that!

~since stepdad is "head" of the account, I forwarded email to my mom and let her deal with it. I also provided her with Slimey Reps name so she could tell them how shitty he is. That is where we discovered there are true Verizon stores and Authorized Resellers that LOOK JUST LIKE THE STORES!! How would you ever know? Furious again.

~so since there is NOTHING we can do to undo my new 2 year committment to Verizon, I decided to call the store in hopes that Slimey Rep would be there so I could tell him off (at the very least). He wasn't there but I got his manager's phone number instead. Hooray! After 20 minutes on the phone with him, I feel much better now & am glad that I got all that off of my chest...turns out he is a new rep (no surprise). Slimey Rep is the SECOND nasty encounter I've had at that same location. Won't be going back there.

~oh and just to give you an example of things he did/said...the minute I said I was planning to go to AT&T in November for an iPhone, he said "oh I'll give you my card, you'll be back in December"..."I've had 3 iPhones and took them all back" and other pot-shots like that. I told him that it is personal preference and that I have many friends with iPhones and none of them have returned them. Told you he was a complete a-hole. Oh and my mom is an AT&T retiree so we will get a 19% discount...not sure why they ever signed up with Verizon to begin with.

~incident #2 - shorter story (thank goodness)...i'm getting a new printer and couldn't find it in any stores but only on-line. normally that is fine, but I couldn't get free shipping and really don't want to fork over $20+ to have something sent to me. I finally found the printer @ my local OfficeMax and the guy gave me all kinds of heck over asking him to hold it 'til I can get there after work today. WTH? Don't you want to make a sale? He said it is "unfair"....pfft, whatever. In today's economy, you would think they would do whatever they can to make a sale....I offered to pay over the phone, but they couldn't do that.

alarm clock issues

This is the alarm clock I currently have. Honestly I really do not need an alarm clock now that I have E. He is quite reliable and has me up no later than 7am daily, but usually even earlier. I do like to at least have a clock in my bedroom though.

Anyway, I seem to have "issues" with alarm clocks and although I've had this one for some time, I now feel the need to get rid of it...why you ask...because the back light is just TOOOOOO bright. It even has 3 settings but the lowest setting is still way too bright for my liking. I could turn it totally off, but then I can't see what time it is at all, like at 2am when E wakes and insists on going into the living room (like last night).

Once upon a time, I had a great Sony "dream machine" (goofy name) that played CDs and I would put music on every night and happily fall asleep letting it turn off after 60 minutes or so. That alarm clock was "the bomb" and sadly it finally died after many, many long and happy years together.

The iHome also (obviously) plays music but the issue with that is that volume setting "1" which is the LOWEST, is TOO loud for falling asleep. Who the hell engineered this thing? They should be fired. Between the sound and the light, it's a piece of crap. The only thing it's good for is charging my iPod Touch while I sleep. Honestly. That.is.the.truth.

Prior to the current alarm clock, I had the one pictured above. I cannot recall all the issues I had with it, but I switched it out mainly because the other one is much smaller and takes up less room on my (small) nightstand.

To be honest, I cannot believe I'm having SUCH difficulty in finding an alarm clock that I like and which doesn't imitate a spotlight once the lights are off. Ugh!

I think a trip to Target may be in order today and I just may put my alarm clock up for sale on Amazon!!

35:53

ETA: changed the title time to 35:53 from 35:55 after getting on-line race results. Woohoo for the extra 2 seconds. LOL!!!

I survived another 5K race today. That is a miracle in itself.

Strangely enough, I beat my last 5K race time by more than 3.5 minutes, yet not sure how I really did that because this route was SO much harder than the last. Hard to believe that only 3 wks of training between races made that much difference. Anyway, they also said this course was "flat & fast"...well, I want to know what they were smoking when they made that assessment because it was constant up and down - albeit slight/small hills, but still!! I even felt a WHOLE LOT worse as I finished, like if there hadn't been a few hundred people around, I would have just fallen onto the ground and lay there indefinitely...
Here I am just starting out -hence the smile- I had yet to realize the torture I was about to go through. (click on the pictures to enlarge)
And this one was taken as I approached the finish line, thinking "why did I ever think this was a good idea?"Here's the proof of my finish time...you can see me in my grey shirt just to the right of the lady.

Water never tasted so good!!!

And all was well in the world again...

a post in pictures

Um, can someone please enlighten this child as to the fact that this "wagon" is NOT for little boys, but instead for Legos and such? He climbed in there himself and it was serving as his spot to watch TV.
His favorite napping spot...and why I get NOTHING done when he naps!

TGIF

~even though my work weeks are shorter than most, I'm SO glad it's Friday.

~i am relieved that my Midterm is behind me. I did "ok" but dang I hate essay questions!!

~i have been sore in a particular area (related to weaning E, you figure it out) and only on 1 side. finally the pain/discomfort is easing up, but bizarre that it took a week to start hurting. also, i'm lopsided..cannot wait for that to resolve itself.

~i'm chopping my hair this saturday. going really short. cannot.stand.it.any.longer.

~made a cute mini-album to document E's first trip to the beach. just happy to have a little scrapbooking time.

~i've been embracing my 'alone-time' this week. I get 2 more days next week too.

~i'm going for an interview @ a pre-school this morning @ 10am. i've applied as a substitute teacher and the best part, E can go with me if/when I work. i really hope i get the job. i could use the extra cash too.

~i'm running a 5K race this Saturday. hoping to take ALOT of time off my last time. *crossing fingers*

stressing

~ok, this crazy 5 week mini term is getting to me..."calgon, take me away"

~i have a midterm tomorrow. we've only had 5 classes so far. that is SO weird.

~i made video #1 (of 2) on Monday. they dubbed it to a DVD for me. I got home. it wouldn't play on either of my computers. WTH? they re-dubbed to a new DVD yesterday. same problem. then I downloaded some VLC crap to be able play it on the computer. it played but not well. not well enough to play & pause repeatedly so that I can TRANSCRIBE the ENTIRE 25 minutes!!

~i put it on the DVD player last night. works perfectly, but that is such an inconvenience. if I could just play it on my computer...it would be so much easier.

~it took me more than 1 hour to transcribe 12 minutes last night. hoping to do other 12 minutes either tonight or Thursday. combine that with the fact that E was not cooperating in the sleep department last night.

~the video is due on Tuesday along with a 2-3 page analysis paper. I need to finish the transcription, obviously BEFORE I hand it in and then also do this paper. Ugh!!

~guess who got stuck doing a counseling role play yesterday with Ms. Excessive Self Disclosure? Yep, cuz that is my crap-luck.

~O has been out of town for work all week. that is both a relief and a burden. I have had to drive my sitter home everyday after work and it's one hour roundtrip (at least) and I ALWAYS get caught in the dreaded "rush hour" traffic.

~have I mentioned I've done very little studying for the midterm?!? I don't think it will be an awful exam, but I still don't feel prepared. at least I haven't missed 3 classes like some others.

~and then I absolutely HAVE to run tonight. I have a 5K on Saturday. I MUST beat my last time or I'll cry for days. I am leaving work early (3pm) today so I can get sitter home and then either study or work on transciption somewhat and hope E can play a little...even if it's just 15 minutes, it's better than nothing. I'm desperate. anyone want to come over and watch E for me?

~and lastly...i've had very little work to do here in my position since I started in January. well guess who just got a TON of 'tasks' dumped on her? i'm also still working on an insane database project that seems to have NO end. timing stinks.

~bright side: only 5 classes left. i will be at the beach in 17 days!

~so I better quit blogging and do my work...

Weaning: Round 3 = SUCCESS!!!

~I am so, so, so happy to report that I am now the SOLE owner of 2 (semi-saggy, TMI?) boobies...but the important part is that I am the SOLE owner. Yep. We are 6 days weaned now. Hooray! He's finally quit pulling on my shirt too. LOL!

~As for the crib situation, that's a whole 'nother animal. E has been sleeping in there but not very well, as you can see from this picture. And as for naps, he refuses to sleep in his crib for me or the sitter. He actually naps on the COUCH (of all places) with the sitter and then she has to sit there next to him to make sure he doesn't roll off. Bummer for her!

~E is still waking numerous times @ night when sleeping in the crib. Last Wednesday night he actually slept 5 hours w/o waking and I was so excited to see some progress. Apparently, it was a fluke because Thursday and Friday night were back to only 1-2 hour spans and 3-4 wakings. Saturday and Sunday nights he slept in my bed...well, mainly because of the wimpy husband being in the house...we will be back in the crib tonight as O is gone for the week. It's amazing though how good E sleeps JUST BECAUSE he's in my bed...it's crazy. Why can't he realize how much more room he would have if he were in his own bed?!?

so freakin' annoying

I think a Monday is perfect for creating a list of things that annoy the crap outta me...feel free to add what annoys you in the Comments!! Vent away....

~over air-conditioned restaurants, buildings, movie theaters, classrooms etc!! Just because it's 90+ freakin' degrees outside, does NOT mean the AC inside should be on 60! I have to carry a sweater with me all summer long & that is just plain WRONG!

~drivers on campus who pay NO attention and thereby almost run me over while I'm in the MIDDLE of the crosswalk. (has happened twice so far this year)

~rude people. duh! this one is a given. especially now that I'm part of the RWP Sorority!

~a pack of scrapbook letters missing all the letters that you need for your current page/project.

~people who don't respond to emails.

~getting stuck on the phone for WAY longer than necessary.

~inconsistency!!!!!!!!!!!!

~I am certain there are many, many more but my brain is not functioning so well this early in the morning.

bike trailer debut

~we tried out the bike trailer this afternoon.

~let me just say we didn't go to far, although it wasn't just me that wanted to quit. E started fussing after a little while....not sure why though, heck he wasn't doing any of the work.

~i haven't ridden my bike in more than 2 years. add 25lbs for the trailer and another 25 for E and well, the slight uphills felt like steep hills to me. talk about burn.

~and I thought I had a lot of work to do on the running. ha. need to get bicycling much more too!

happy blogoversary to me

~my blog is 2 years old today!

~this is bittersweet moment though as I am still mourning the loss of my TWO (yes, two) previous blogs.

~I will try not to mention my lost blogs so much anymore, I'm sure you are getting tired of hearing about it. I must come to terms with the fact that they have been eaten up and swallowed by cyberspace and are gone forever.

a post in pictures

proof that my child is crazy-stubborn. instead of simply lying down in his crib and dozing off, he stays standing and falls asleep. the problem: he wakes much more frequently because CLEARLY it is not as comfortable as lying down!!!

hamming it up for the new camera!

bullet point review

~I have a feeling it's going to be a bullet-point post kind of week...

~I had my haircut @ Aveda on Sunday. All seemed well as I left. Well, Monday & Tuesday were hair days from hell. I felt & looked like a mess. Last night I took the scissors to my head MYSELF....and guess what - my hair turned out awesome today. Maybe a career change is in my future? LOL!! I actually want to go even shorter so I'm thinking of going to another completely different salon. I really like Sharon Stone's hair in this picture.

~speaking of hair. my old hairdresser FINALLY texted me back YESTERDAY. ONE WEEK LATER. Gee...thanks! Um, for NOTHING!

~we are 2 nights into the weaning process (again). last night was somewhat of an improvement over the 1st night -thank goodness. E still woke repeatedly but the worst part of it all is that in addition to crying, he now yells out "mama, mama" and well, that is absolutely heartbreaking. I ALMOST caved @ 5am this morning by taking him to bed with me. I wanted to cuddle him so bad. But I stood strong. My back was nearly breaking hunched over his crib, so we went to the couch and slept there 'til 6:30am. I don't think that's a bad thing.

~I was looking at my running log on my iPod this morning and comparing my first few runs to my most recent. I am super excited to see the improvement in my pace time. My first run (with iPod) on June 7th was 2.25 miles at a pace of 12:52. On Monday, July 13th, I ran 3.11 miles at an 11:19 pace. I LOVE THAT!! That is just what I needed to stay motivated! The best part, I'm really trying to focus on running farther as opposed to faster so I guess they sort of come hand in hand. Yay! I want to get THIS in the near future. I'm getting annoyed with the difficulty in calibrating the iPod. I would still use the iPod, but the watch is ready to go out-of-the-box. Also, a friend of mine has it and says it's wonderful. This is getting to be an expensive activity. LOL!! And don't forget the Oakleys I want to get before the 1/2 marathon - lots of time for that though.

~I'm still on the push-up challenge. I keep forgetting though which days I have done the push ups. I was trying to do them opposite my running days, but then when I occasionally take 2 days off from running (shin pain) that throws the schedule off. Either way, yesterday I did Week 2, Day 2 of the 100 Push Up Challenge.

~My mom is awesome. She bought THIS for Ethan and I. It should arrive this week. Last Friday I dropped my bike off at the bike shop for a tune-up. I haven't ridden (rode?) it in over 2 years. It is supposed to be ready Thursday. I can't wait to go for a ride with Ethan. I also read in Runner's World that bicycling is a good exercise to do while trying to give time for the shins to heal. Yay! Now I want THIS so I can go for rides outside of our neighborhood...we are surrounded by semi-busy streets and riding in my small neighborhood will get old, quick. Crazy, how one thing leads to another and another etc.

~After reading Extranjera's post yesterday where she mentioned Luis Miguel, I regressed back to my Mexico living days and have been obsessed with listening to his music ever since. Thank you Slacker Radio....and thank you Extranjera!! LOL!!

~I am very thankful that this class I have right now is only 5 weeks long. The RWP in there are getting unbearable. Ms. "I'm on my 3rd marriage" informed us all yesterday that her marriage is ALSO her husband's 3rd marriage and then continued to let us know that her first husband was violent with her. She nearly got into a heated argument with a classmate about the reality of being a women "stuck" in an abusive relationship...not a conversation I wanted to be a part of so I kept quiet. Regardless of her life situation(s) though, it's a freakin' class NOT a counseling session for HER. Yes, there will be some self-disclosure throughout a counseling class, but she needs to pull in the reigns.

~Then there is Ms. "I'm a former pastor" and I'm not sure I want to get into everything she goes on about in class...honestly I've lost track. I discovered she is the same age as me and honestly she looks like shes at least 10 years older. She has told us that her brother married a woman who was cheating on him prior to & during the wedding so she is uber-sensitive to affair-type situations and she has a host of other 'situations' in which she feels that she would not be an effective counselor. (wth?!?!) I'm starting to question why she even came into the program AND how in the world did they let her in? She must have given a good interview. The course is taught by one of the two head profs and honestly, if these two women keep revealing all this info, it's possible they could get booted from the program...if it appears that they are not suited for counseling.

~Oh Kayak.com, you are SO cruel to send me weekly email reminders about cheap travel deals all over the globe. Yeah, believe me, if I had a single extra penny, I would SO be gone. somewhere. anywhere. In today's email: ROUND TRIP FLIGHTS to ORLANDO for $109!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *screaming at top of my lungs now* Off to UNsubscribe to Kayak emails.

everybody's doing it

I keep seeing these all over the blog world...so here's mine. Make yours here!
And apparently I'm not as tech savvy as I had hoped because I can't seem to figure out how to make the image bigger without it getting all pixelated.

I do think it's pretty funny though that RWP is pretty big. Apparently, the words that appear most often in your blog will be bigger and the less frequent, smaller.

sunday random thoughts

~i'm supposed to be writing a paper right now. I'm sitting @ my local Borders, child-free so that I can get this paper done. I am seriously lacking in the discipline department apparently. it's pretty exciting to think that in only 26 days this class will be COMPLETE and I'll be en route to the beach!!! Woohoo!!!

~i'm trying not to think about it much, but tonight begins the 3rd attempt at weaning E. I should be somewhat excited about it - or at least getting to the end result, but I'm dreading tonight. I must keep fresh in my mind that he has been waking 3-5 times per night EVERY night for the past week and AT LEAST one time per night since he was born and I cannot handle that any longer. I hope he gets the hang of it in 5 nights as mom's husband comes home on Friday and I'm sure O will be ready to sleep at home by then. I will be on Twitter tonight BIG TIME looking for moral support... 3rd times a charm? I'm hoping so!! Edited: this has already been postponed to Monday night. Husband was boo-hooing about having to go over there on Sunday! Whiner!

~i'm getting a haircut @ 2pm today. thankfully i've gone to this gal before so I'm not frightened and then when I remembered that they give head/neck massages pre-haircut, well, that makes it all the much better. I probably won't go back to old hairdresser and I can't wait 'til my mom sees her next time to see what she says about me not coming in. I am really in shock that she never called...certainly over the past 5 days she remembered @ some point!!!

~i'm contemplating running today. not sure if I should take 2 days off or not. my left shin is sore to the touch, but not terrible. maybe i'll just make it a short run. better than not @ all. we kind of wanted to make a family event on Sundays to go to this local park where they have a paved trail for running and TONS of open grass for E to run around with a soccer ball. that way I get in some outdoor running and E burns off a lot of energy and hopefully gets worn out. we really need to wear him out today too so maybe the night weaning won't be so difficult, at least this first night.

randomness is my favorite

~i love random posts and so here's another...

~the other night I mentioned to O my interest in running this 5k in Nashville. It would give us an "excuse" to go to Nashville, get away from here and stay in a hotel and generally get out of our ridiculously boring 'do-nothing' routine. Now before I tell you how he responded, let me say that he has been (shockingly) very supportive in my running venture, never batting an eyelash at me signing up for races or the time I spend on the treadmill....so when he said "how many races did you sign up for this week?" I kind of laughed.

~I have been talking ALOT about races, but honestly I only signed up for ONE this week and that was on Monday when I mailed the form in. Anyway, I'm not officially signed up for the Nashville 5k, but it's on my race schedule because I WILL be signing up for it. So there.

~if you said you were not a 'gossipy' person, yet went to playgroup, talked about another mom who was not present and then called me after playgroup ended to find out what I thought about what was said about person not present...isn't that gossipy? I think so. I'm talking about the friend who keeps me on the phone for insane amounts of time. I wasn't home from playgroup more than 10 minutes and the phone rings. this happens all.the.time. thankfully I was on the treadmill so I didn't answer. what is also annoying about this is that I said I was coming home so E could nap, I could run and then work on my paper. yet she still calls. not planning to return that call. i think she needs to find a hobby.

~still no word from my hairdresser. i have an appointment on Sunday @ Aveda for a trim with the same gal I saw back in May when I was previously frustrated with my hairdresser. I see a trend here.

~and I'm up to 697 followers...only 3 to go.

hairdresser dilemma

~i have been using the same hairdresser for 4 years now, ever since I moved here. my mom also uses her and we like her. she is fun, a bit dippy, but very nice.

~time's they are a changing...isn't that how it goes?

~my hairdresser frequently makes statements regarding her low finances, especially at times when her husband was out of work. that's fine. i don't mind the conversation, heck i'm in the same boat anyway.

~so here's the thing. for the past 4-6 months, my hairdresser has apparently forgotten how to tell time. every.single.appointment I've had with her recently she has been running VERY late, i'm not talking 10-15 minutes, more like 45!! now some may say this is typical in the industry and I can agree somewhat, however this never used to happen and it has all of a sudden become standard with her. heck, even O would go up and see her for his super duper special army haircuts (shaved head) before his drill weekends. she kept him waiting for as long as 45 minutes. one time she even told him if he had something to do, such as an errand, he could go to that and come back. well, what in the hell is the point in even making an appointment then? she obviously does not respect them. just this past Friday my mom had a 10am appointment. I had a 1:45pm appointment. at 10:45am my mom called and said that I probably didn't want to come up there since she was already running SO far behind so early in the morning. I cancelled.

~now i've always been a punctual person so these things really annoy me, but now with E in the picture, I'm even more annoyed. I have to arrange for someone to watch E so I can go get my freakin' haircut. that is usually O and the times when he is home & when hairdresser has available appointment time is slim. very slim. that 1:45pm appointment last week was actually for E to get a trim. there is NO way I'm taking him up there only to have to entertain him for an additional 45 minutes IN THE SALON until she can actually cut his hair. 17 month olds do not have that kind of patience. she has kids. she knows this, but apparently it doesn't matter.

~so silly me just won't give up. on monday I texted her to see if she could give me a trim on tuesday night. she wrote back that she is not working (at night) and offered wednesday. i didn't want to do wednesday since it's my running night, but i need a haircut so I said sure and asked her to let me know what time she had available. she would not be able to tell me until she got into the shop. now...that is freakin' annoying too. she is the most inconsistent person EVER. she has a Blackberry, which she excitedly pointed out to me a few months ago and said she would keep her appointments on her BB and so I could contact her directly to make my appointments as she prefers that vs. using the salon front desk. obviously she isn't keeping them on there anymore since she couldn't give me a time. I was expecting her call Tuesday morning to give me a time for Wed night. she never called. remember she keeps saying she has no money and cannot afford to take a Saturday off from time to time, but she also can't call me to schedule my appointment in which I would be PAYING her. WTF!

~so now that she hasn't called, I'm beyond annoyed and progressing along at a rapid pace into the pissed off category. it is hard to feel this way because she is a really sweet person. so sweet in that she threw me a baby shower. yep. she has become more than just a hairdresser over the years, even though she is flakey when it comes to being a friend and trying to do things outside the shop...they never work out. she is a poor planner. duh!

~so i really need a haircut. my options are (1) sucking it up and calling her, but then juggling schedules to figure out when O is home and whether she has time to fit me in. Oh and that's the thing, it's always "fitting me in" which in my book translates to "i will be running late". This would not be as painful if they had WiFi to help pass the time, but no, plus I always feel rushed to get back home because inevitably O will call and say that E is getting fussy and blah blah blah. (another story for another day) Option (2) going back to the Aveda shop in the mall to the gal who cut my hair a couple months ago when I was previously annoyed with hairdresser. The bad part about that: she charges more and I'm on a ridiculously tight budget. Growing my hair out is NOT an option, just in case you felt like suggesting that.

1st class recap

~so I started my Summer class yesterday. it was less painful than expected, however I think there will be pain forth-coming.

~i have to do two 25 minute counseling sessions and video tape them & turn them in. the 2nd video tape is my final. to add some excitement to the mix, I will have to create a transcript of one of them and analyze it or in other words, make comments about what was actually being said. does not sound like fun. i lost count of how many times the professor said this assignment is a hassle/nightmare and that he had to do 5 of them in one semester before. i guess i will be thankful that we only have to do 1.

~i am currently creating a family genogram or in other words, a fancy picture of my family tree, however you want to refer to it. the fun part was identifying the relationships between the people on the genogram. yes, too many conflictual relationships for my liking, but it will give me lots to write about in the 3-5 page paper that must accompany it. due tuesday.

~i need to watch a movie that has a counseling session in it and write a paper analyzing it and pointing out what I would or would not do differently. i'm leaning towards using the movie "Prime" due thursday.

~that's the thing about a uber short semester/session...things are due immediately. it's crazy stressful. is it august yet?

~there is a good mix of people in the class. we even have one of the basketball players. he is 6'9"!! can't miss him! my perpetual question though surrounding classes is why, why, why is there ALWAYS that ONE person who (1) doesn't shut up and (2) has a question or comment about everything. now, don't get me wrong, I don't mean a question about the material and furthering her learning, more like questions or comments from the peanut gallery, but she's not funny. she's annoying. already. we've only had 1 class. i'm going to try really hard to not let her get to me. she has already shared that she is on her 3rd marriage (WTF!) sorry, I would so NOT be sharing that. then she went on to say that she 'made' her now husband date her for 5 years before she would marry him because she usually runs off the guys at the 5 year mark. it seems that she believes that maybe she is co-teaching the course...i dunno. stay tuned for more on the blabbermouth. or RWP as Veg & Extranjera like to call them. :)

peanut butter reeses cookies

~so last night I tried the cookie bar recipe using peanut butter cookie dough and adding Reeses peanut butter cups.

~here are a few pictures: (disclaimer: although my new baby (camera) arrived yesterday, these were taken with the point & shoot as new baby is still in the box)

~place peanut butter cookie dough in 9x13 pyrex dish

~spread dough out evenly covering bottom of dish

~cut up peanut butter cups and spread throughout dish~break up second package of peanut butter cookie dough and spread throughout pan between pieces of peanut butter cup. place in 350 oven for 20 minutes.

~the finished product. the are pretty tasty, but honestly I prefer the Milky Way/Chocolate Chip cookie version more.

te amo tuesday

In addition to this post, I'm guest posting over at Fidgeting Gidget's blog today while she is off enjoying her vacation!! Please go visit her blog. And if you don't already follow her, you really should - she's loads of fun!!

OK - i'm trying to get back on track with the "te amo tuesday" spanish lessons...I'm starting to think there really isn't that much interest in them since I only received ONE suggestion for a topic. If that's the case, I will promptly discontinue the lessons and just continue posting about my often crappy life...yep, that's what I'll do.

This week though, the topic will be just some basic conversational pieces. Fidgeting Gidget has a lot of international co-workers and wanted to know a few simple & basic things to say to them throughout the workday...so here goes.

Buenos Dias. (bwen os dee ahs)
Good Morning.

¡Que tenga buen dia! (kay ten ga bwen dee a)
Have a good day!

¿Como pasaste el fin de semana? (koh mo pa sahs tay elle feen day sah ma nah)
How was your weekend?

Me pasé un buen fin de semana. (may pa say oon bwen feen day sah ma nah)
I had a good weekend.

¿Como te va el dia? (koh mo tay va elle dee a)
How is your day going?

¿Donde vas a comer? (don day vas a koh mare)
Where are you going to eat/have lunch?

¿Mucho trabajo? (moo cho tra bah ho)
Do you have alot of work?

No puedo esperar el fin de semana. (literal) (no pway doh ess pear ar elle feen day sah ma nah)
I cannot wait for the weekend!

Me muero que llega el fin de semana. (slang) (may mwero kay yayga elle feen day sah ma nah)
I'm dying for the weekend to get here.

If there's a phrase that you'd like to know in Spanish that fits with this theme, just leave it in the comments and I'll get it translated for you.

Hasta luego!

milky way chocolate chip cookies

~a couple of weeks ago at playgroup, the host mom made the most delicious dessert. at first I didn't get too excited about it. I was early in my new running & healthy eating routine and didn't want to be tempted. I had one teeny piece and called it a day.

~then she sent the recipe to everyone because a few moms had asked for it. I did not ask for it.

~so then I bought the ingredients -only 2 things- and made them for O...and I had a few, but really (amazingly) kept it under control considering I could have eaten the entire pan (in one sitting).

~then last week I made them again and brought them to work to share. I had to cut them up prior to bringing them in because O couldn't stand the entire pan staring him down on Sunday night, he wanted to bust into them. I got rave reviews at work and keep thinking about making them again. but I DO NOT need the temptation or the calories.

~instead I thought i'd share the recipe with you though...

2 packages of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - get Pillsbury, Nestle's got recalled.

1 "To Go" package of Milky Way candy bars -there are 6 in the package.

Take the 1st package of cookie dough, break up the squares and flatten into a 9x13 pyrex dish or similar pan so that bottom of pan is covered.

Next, take the 6 candy bars and break (or cut) them into small pieces and distribute evenly throughout the pan, trying very hard not to eat too many of the small pieces.

Last, take the remaining package of cookie dough, break into squares and drop in pan filling in where there are no Milky Way pieces.

Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

Enjoy!!

~and now I'm thinking I may try this recipe with Peanut Butter Cookie Dough and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. Then we'll really be in trouble.

~and I'm sorry I do not have a picture to share with you, but trust me, they are sooooo good. I will take pictures next time I make them.

random thoughts

~school starts back this week. it's a 5 week semester. i am both dreading it and looking forward to it. it will be nice to get a class out of the way in only 5 weeks, but I'm thinking those 5 weeks will be somewhat hell-ish.

~I still need guest posters for August 8-15. Inquire within. or in other words: let me know if you are interested.

~feeling a bit deflated on the running right now. cannot believe how sore I was from the 5K race on Friday. two full days of soreness. hoping I can successfully run tonight on the treadmill.

~I have officially began the 100 push up challenge. I am even enjoying it. Chele & Optimistic Pessimist have joined me too!

~looks like the weaning process will begin again next Sunday or Monday night. My mom's husband is going out of town so O will go stay over there. AGAIN!! Not looking forward to this, but it DOES need to be done...especially after the past two nights when E has been super-restless and I've gotten a combined 9-10 hours of sleep. Not good.

~last night I booked a room at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort for the Princess 1/2 Marathon. So excited!!

~crazy humidity here today. my hair & humidity DO NOT get along. remind me to cut it really short before leaving for the race next March.

~may I suggest that if you don't already have your email attached to your blog, it's really a great feature, that way when you comment on someone's blog (like mine), then I can email you back directly with a response or additional comments. this is especially helpful when you have a question of the blog owner.

~it's fun to watch how many followers I have on this blog, but what is even funnier is that I cannot seem to hit 700. I was at 698 a couple days ago, so I guess 4 people found me uninteresting and stopped following. Oh well. It would be nice to hit 700 though. just sayin'. :)

(ALOT) of room for improvement

~so last night I ran my 1st 5k race in almost 3 years.

~I was hoping for a new PR, but apparently that was VERY wishful thinking.

~I ended up with my SLOWEST time ever. Yep!

~I'm a little frustrated because my Nike+ had me @ a good pace and on target for a PR if not very close to it.
can you find me?

~When I hit both the 1 and 2 mile marker, the Nike+ was very close as well, like 1.1 and 2.1 so not THAT far off.

~When I finished the race though, the Nike+ said I had ran 3.5 miles. If I really did run 3.5 miles, I guess the difference would have only been 30-40 seconds? I'm guessing. Oh well.

~When I crossed the finish line, the clock said 39:35 but on the results website today it was 39:37...great....add insult to injury. LOL!!

~On the bright side: I have LOTS of room for improvement. 3 weeks to my next 5k!!

~and to wrap things up, here is a VERY unflattering picture of me after the race. it was dark & my new camera has not arrived yet, hence the crappyness of photo quality. it's just a miracle that I was still standing.

it's official!!!!

~Well, I did it!!! Yesterday I registered for Disney's Princess 1/2 Marathon next March!!! While I'm crazy excited, I'm also a tad bit nervous. Hopefully as I get more running experience under my belt, the nerves will subside.

~I was anxious to register because I don't want the race to fill and miss out completely and also, it's a great way to keep me running. After forking over $140 (race & the commemorative pin) I'll surely stay true to that commitment.

~The dilemma now is deciding which resort to stay at. It's between the two listed over there to your right. Please take a look at each of them-they are fairly similar-and place your vote for which one you think we should stay at. And by "we", I mean: Chele, Optimistic Pessimist & Rachel. Dawn & Brandi said they'll be there to cheer us on too. Jessi will be there in spirit, since the government has decided that they want her in Africa in March 2010...boo!! And Beth, I haven't forgotten that you mentioned being somewhat interested in joining the party!! If anyone else is interested in joining our crazy GIRLS WEEKEND, please do. The more, the merrier.

~And on another bright note, after way, way too many months (more than 1 year) to count, I finally ordered/purchased the Canon Digital SLR I've been wanting. Don't get me wrong, I'm still flat-broke (practically), but I do have a little fund that I had been contributing to back when I had a (real) job and well, I decided that it was just time to dip into that to pay for both the camera and the race. And well, I freakin' deserve it & that's the bottom line.

~I haven't felt this happy in a long time. It feels good.

~Oh...and tonight @ 9pm EDT I am running my 1st 5k race in 3 years. Wish me luck. I really, really, really want to set a new personal best. (wishful thinking...maybe?)

guest posting is fun!

I'm guest posting over at Vanessa's today...go over and check it out.

apply within

~it IS summer time and along with summer time typically (if you're lucky) comes vacations.

~along with vacations, comes the lack of blogging time. can you see where this is heading?

~I need guest posters!!!

~I'm heading to Myrtle Beach on 8.8.09 and won't return 'til 8.15.09. While we will be staying in a facility equipped with WIFI, and I will likely have my laptop with me, I'm pretty certain that I will be spending my time @ the pool, walking on the beach or heck, even running on the beach as opposed to being cooped up in an air conditioned hotel room. This girl needs a tan!

~And so here is my request for you to submit your story(ies) to me to be published the week I am gone. I'm giving you lots of notice here....you have 5 weeks!!

~I'm not good at assigning topics, so I dunno, come up with something funny & interesting, if it's vacation or baby related, bonus points, but I'm leaving it totally up to you.

~You can email me at the link over there to the right -->
