Bookish and Not-So-Bookish Thoughts is a weekly blogging event hosted by Bookishly Boisterous. It allows book bloggers (and non-book bloggers) to write about pretty much anything, bookish or otherwise (i.e. share exciting plans for the weekend, rants on things they've encountered during the week, etc.).

1) I will never be called "Sally Sunshine" and I'm totally OK with that. In fact, most "Sally Sunshine" types get on my very last nerve....I mean seriously, I don't need to be told that "I am blessed" (because I already know that) or that my happiness is dependent on my reaction to a situation etc. I am especially irritated by such comments from people who (1) do not work full time (2) do not have kids (3) have received a shitload of money from their parents (4) have no bills--see #3 or any combination of some sort of false reality that they may be living in. It's sickening really! It feels like being told that I am not allowed to ever feel sad or anything less than happy. Uh...that's not realistic, people!
2) Good thing I am entertained by these posts weeks, months and years later. I'm the only one reading them anyway.
3) Happy to report that I finished the Santa Hustle Half Marathon last Sunday. Even got a PR!! While injured. Now, that was not expected. I'll have a full race report up eventually. With pictures.
4) The school Christmas program is tonight. There was also a performance yesterday afternoon. Our music teacher is amazing. I love these performances. Ethan really enjoys them too, taking it upon himself to audition for speaking parts. I love it.
5) I cannot wait until next week. Christmas break. Oscar will still have to work a few days so Ethan and I will get our holiday baking on. I also have a dentist and doctor appointment. Always trying to avoid using the very few hours of sick time at work.
6) So this planner craze. I'm not a paper planner kind of gal. I love the look of them, but I cannot function with one. Everything goes on my phone. The other "issue" is that I have bad handwriting and if I don't like how it looks, I will erase and re-write. OCD much? I know. So no paper planner for me....however.........I have been wanting a notebook of sorts where I can jot down random things, or keep track of the PopSugar Reading Challenge and other completely bizarre and interesting-to-only-me kinds of things. So all that to say, Tuesday night I stayed up until 1am to finish my order for an awesome Erin Condren Notebook. I am dying for it to arrive, which will likely be just before Christmas. Merry Christmas to me!!!
7) As previously mentioned in another post, I plan to do the 2016 PopSugar Reading Challenge. One of the challenge item's is an Oprah pick....oh boy...I don't typically read what she picks, purely out of spite, can't stand her. Hoping there will be a good book there somewhere.

1. Love this! I hate when people tell me that I need to smile more or be happier. Nooope...I donʻt have to! Iʻm certainly not Sally Sunshine and thatʻs ok...Iʻm still happy even if my face doesnʻt show it lol.
4. I hope the Christmas program was just amazing!
6. Iʻm definitely a paper planner person but Iʻm giving it up this year for plain old notepads and to-do lists. Planners are just so darn expensive! I love Erin Condren, though, and a notebook is so useful for everything!
7. Iʻll probably end up attempting the PopSugar challenge but Iʻm not sure how far Iʻll get. I havenʻt really looked at all the categories yet, but I guess itʻll be a good way to read more diverse books.

For your Oprah pick have you read She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb - it was a pick when her Book Club first began I think but a very memorable read.

@Booksaremyfavouriteandbest - I think I did read that a number of years ago...I am leaning towards "Daughter of Fortune" by Isabel Allende....more my "type" of book.

2. Not true! Work has been so busy lately (ahem all of 2015 OMG), that I barely have time quickly read, much less comment, MUCH less blog myself. Boo.
4. Love that he's excited! The kids are always so cute. Our midweek Advent services have each been led/performed by a range of grades (perK through grade 8) from the school that's affiliated with our church. The music director for the school is incredible.
5. I am off from noon on Christmas Eve until January 4. (Vacation time, the business is only closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.) I am greatly looking forward to the break. A couple of my coworkers are on my last nerve. =P
6. I have ogled her planners for years but never pull the trigger. I am the total opposite of you, though. I put stuff on my phone and then fail to ever check it again or somehow miss the notifications. If I write it down in my bible, I never forget it. I love technology but not for the stuff that goes in my planner!
7. I Googled the "complete Oprah book club" list. I've only read one thing on it. "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. I liked it quite a bit but it is looooooong (almost a thousand pages) and probably not your taste in books. I don't know what year it made her list and whether you're confined to just her most recent picks or any of them, but you might want to steer clear of that one.
@dawn please know I am not referring to you in #1...I find you to me much more even keeled but also appreciative and thankful for you life...that's different that what I'm referring to. :)
Yeah, what's up with 2015 and the busy? First year in last 5 that I won't make my reading goal and I'm super bummed about that!

I'm glad. I know I'm a "happy person" but I try not to be obnoxious about it. =)
So, I'm going to make super snotty, over-generalized comment in regards to #1 (that is on your side): smarter people are usually not rays of sunshine. Not to say that smart people are assholes, the some of the nicest people I know are not the smartest bulbs in the box.
There are seventeen million exceptions, I am sure, but in my life I see a trend.
Rapture of Caanan was an Oprah pick and that was excellent. So was A Map of the World. She may also have chosen While I was Gone, because I can't imagine why else I would have read it oh so long ago; if she did, that one seems right up your alley.
