Running Outfits...please vote!
Option #1 - "old faithful"
OK - so pros to this outfit is comfort...sort of...the shirt is ROUND neck vs. Vneck and I find that i'm constantly pulling it down when I'm running, so that bugs me. The shorts have pockets and are ridiculously comfortable (and at least 10 years old). While the pockets may be handy, they are SO big that stuff would flop around in there and likely annoy me, so I probably won't use them anyway...although I do want to carry my small P&S camera somehow...word is that there are Disney characters throughout the race course & most people stop for pics...if I see Pluto...I will HAVE to stop!! How am I going to transport my camera?? Argh!!
Option #2 - All New
~So this is the NEW outfit...the shirt is UA and is V-NECK but fits a bit slimmer than shirt in Option #1....not too snug though, the tag info even says "loose" <---hooray!! It's also thin and wicking material, which will be nice since I sweat like a pig when I'm running. I also have no idea what the weather will be...it's only 3 weeks away and high temps right now have been 50s-60s. Oh and the race starts at the insane hour of 6am and I have heard that the corraling process starts around 5am or earlier...so it will probably NOT be 60 degrees at that time...ok that was a tangent....onto the shorts...no pockets...not sure that matters though...they fit a bit snugger than the black shorts but are tasteful...I am NOT one to wear skin tight things...BELIEVE ME...so I also wonder if this option is TOO MUCH PINK??? Or is there such a thing? Also, the pinks match much better IRL...not sure why the pic looks like they are off...
Other options I'm considering....a shirt from one more mile running like the one that says "i'm only doing this so I can post it on facebook" or "this seemed like a good idea 3 months ago" or my personal favorite "slow is the new fast"....if I get one of these shirts, I'm not sure how it will fit me and I'd have to buy White and for some reason that sort of scares me...and limits which sportsbras I can wear.
Oh...sportsbras...that's a nightmare in and of itself...as if buying regular bras wasn't bad enough. I have TWO ANCIENT Champion sportsbras that I wear over and over again...they are grey and go down to my belly button...I like that they hold it all my fat...but after I run a while, they roll up (cuz I'm too fat)...so i'm thinking I won't bother wearing one of them and instead wear one of the "regular" sportsbras that I have...I have a couple white ones, so not a big issue, I'll just need to run a few times with each to see which is more comfortable.
So you can see I have a MAJOR dilemma here picking out a silly outfit for this race....I need your help!!!!
Thank you!!!

OK- As someone who ran 3 Half Marathons in the last year I am going to give you my recommendations. Under no circumstances do you want to wear anything that you have not worn on at least twice before on runs of at least 10 miles. The day of the event is not the time to find out your sports bra that works fine on short runs chaffs you. I know this from experience! Or that your socks are lacking a little in elastic and are going to fall down while you run giving you a blister. I know this and many other tales of horror from experience. So repeat after me, "I will not wear ANYTHING new on race day". Also, you are not going to want to be carrying a lot of stuff in your pockets, forget the camera, get an ipod shuffle and order the professional photos after the event. Again, not trying to be a know it all but I have been there done that....and blisters and raw parts hurt not only when running but for at least a week after!
Cathy-I've heard that before about not wearing new stuff ON race day, so my plan was wear all the new stuff for all my runs over the next 3 weeks til the race to make sure there are no issues...not sure I can forget the camera though...they are actually giving out a disposable one but who wants pics on FILM nowadays...digi only for me.
Also, I think this race is more "fun" focused than actually "athleticism" focused...since I haven't been able to train as much as I'd like I no longer care what my finish time is...
I vote for the old comfy stuff, but love the idea of adding one of the fun shirts like the "I only did this so I could post it on my Facebook." :)
I say go old school comfort. But maybe the Facebook shirt would be fun to try out.
As long as the stuff doesn't rub a raw spot, wear what you really want to wear.
I'm wearing an old reliable running skirt, old bra (my favorite non-riding up one) and a new t-shirt. Oh, and some fabulous knee high athletic socks just for the hell of it (and I have worn them already so I know they'll do fine).
I'm getting excited! Oh, and someone told me to wear a trash bag in the line up as it will keep me warm until the running warms me up. Sounds like a plan!
Old comfy stuff! :)
I'd go with the old comfy stuff too, at least on the next to skin layer if you know what I mean. I wouldn't be too worried about layering up a new t-shirt over a tried & true long sleeve.
As for place to put the camera, I always carry my phone (has a camera), a bit of cash, room key card and ID on my fuel belt. I have never taken it out during a race, but it's nice to have just in case.
i guess i am 'tacky' when i wear bright colored sports bras under white shirts :) oh well.
i would vote old and comfy, but why not see how the new digs work out over the next couple of weeks? maybe you'll find you like the new shorts/etc better.
as for the camera - when i ran in disney last year i just held my camera in my hand (and put the strap around my wrist in case i dropped it). it wasn't that annoying (to me) 'cause i wasn't racing hard or anything.
Well, old comfy stuff seems to have won, but I say you need to add something new for yourself - buy a t-shirt.
Do you have a "fanny pack" that you can carry a water bottle in? I have one that also has a pocket, so something like that might work for your camera.
i love new things. Kinda like shiny things. :P so i would go with new. I don't run and have no ambition to do anything more than a 5K in my life, so my 2 cents may not be worth anything...
I can't possibly contribute in a helpful way to this decision since the only time I run is if something angry is chasing me =P but I had to say... 18 DAYS!!!
