Bookish and Not-So-Bookish Thoughts is a weekly blogging event hosted by Bookishly Boisterous. It allows book bloggers (and non-book bloggers) to write about pretty much anything, bookish or otherwise (i.e. share exciting plans for the weekend, rants on things they've encountered during the week, etc.).
************************************************************************************************1) Confession: I have never read a Jane Austen book. I would like to but it seems that there is always something else (newer) that I'd rather read first. I do wonder if I would love Jane Austen books, as many people do, or would I end up bored with them? I feel like I need to give at least one a try. Just cannot decide which I should start with....any suggestions?
2) Enjoy this not-so-flattering picture of me finishing the 15k on Sunday. A friend of mine also ran it and finished 12 minutes before me, so she took these pictures. It is clear that I DO NOT photograph well when running.
3) Everyone is the city enjoyed Fall Break on Monday & Tuesday, except for us. That is what happens when we have an extra long summer so they can do construction....now we have ZERO days off until Thanksgiving....oh that turkey sure will taste good!!
4) Back to the 15k, I had a goal in mind for my finishing time, but missed it by 5 minutes. I am "ok" with that now because I thought it was going to be much worse as I struggled through miles 6-7. I submitted my time for the corral placement for the Disney race and they estimate my finish to be 20 minutes faster than the other 2 times I ran the Disney Princess 1/2 so I'm super excited about that!!!
5) My treadmill @ home is officially dead. This is a total drag. I am completely obsessed with my Fitbit and getting my 10k (at least) every day. On non-workout days, this is often hard to do, especially when I have sat in 3 hours of meetings (like today).
6) So I posted on my FB about an observation I had at the library yesterday. The short story: a woman (covered in tattoos--I'm thinking $$ here, not that she has tattoos necessarily), paid $1.55 in PENNIES to the library so that her balance owed would be under $12 and they could out books for her school age daughter. I guess this is the downfall of being responsible (me, for the most part)...I cannot understand spending (a lot of) money on tattoos (in her case) while having fines at the library. You can check out and renew books for up to 9 weeks...how does one get fines?!?! If you can't pay the fines, don't check out books. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to the tattoos...it's more the lack of responsibility and/or expectation that one is entitled to things (books in this case) while indulging in other self-satisfying things (tattoos). Oh and I got "attacked" by a couple of FB "friends" after posting this...which reminded me why I rarely make a post that people might feel the need to argue about.
7) I think I'll only post pics, book/reading updates and really boring, pointless status updates on Facebook from now on. See #6. #seriously #PeopleWearMeOut
8) People confuse me. A lot. Especially the ones who contact you when they need something or need to talk. I still think living a hermit life style (on a beach of course) would be amazing. Just give me my books. Goodbye!
9) Hopefully this doesn't bring me bad luck...but looks like we might actually get a new to us vehicle in the next couple weeks. We tried this a couple of months ago through Carmax and mysteriously "lost" the vehicle after paying for it to be transferred here. Long story. We finally found another vehicle that we wanted and it's supposedly en route from San Antonio, TX. Woot! Can't wait. Our current family vehicle has 136k miles on it and is 10 years old!
10) Enjoy this...

How do they lose a vehicle?
I just unfriend or block people who irritate me on Facebook. Or my new fun trick is just blocking people from specific posts that I know will give me shit. I play SO fair. Hahaha.
How do they lose a vehicle? Good question...here's what happened - it was a 2014 (or 2015) Ford Explorer Limited with 4,000 miles - yes, only 4,000...on Sunday we paid to transfer it to TN. On Wednesday we got a call that it had been sold at the NC dealership where it was at originally. Thing is though is that on Sunday it was available. They even contacted the dealership and a live person did a "walk around" on the vehicle before we submitted the transfer. So I call BS...someone realized what a great deal the vehicle was with such low mileage and sold it out from under us. This is where FB is super handy...we are getting this other vehicle transferred for FREE!! :)
1. I try to keep myself reading more than just one particular genre, so I keep a little checklist for myself that makes sure I don't "forget" to include reading at least a couple of classics and a couple of non-fiction books each year. Honestly, I don't know how some of these classics became so popular in the first place. ;-)
6. I just shake my head. I don't know one of the commenters "in question," but we have the other in common. And, in my observation, this person a) likes conflict, b) is a hypocrite, and c) is *never* at fault for anything. I firmly believe that our choices have consequences, and very few of the things that "happen to us" are entirely "external at fault." I am a responsible person as well. And I understand people may be having financial difficulties. I have compassion for that. BUT the library doesn't have to cost you money. It can be completely free...IF you make responsible choices, like returning your books on time. Ahem. Not to mention, it's just considerate to the people waiting to borrow that book after you. The only reason I haven't unfriended this person is because it reminds me of how I never want to act.
7. You'll notice I rarely say anything that can turn into a discussion. Not worth it. I keep those conversations for my inner circle people.
8. We have beaches in Florida. ;-) And then, when one of us doesn't feel hermit-like, we could make a WDW date. Just sayin'... LOL
9. ::fingers crossed::
10. LOL
Dawn - That is my fear re: reading a classic, that it will be awful and I'll be mad I wasted the time on it.
You & I are SO alike in regards to the FB or other "public" postings...I seriously hesitated before posting, but I was so taken aback by this woman, I just couldn't help it. I'm glad to read your observations of the commenter we have in common, that makes me feel better. What is most bothersome about the whole thing is that when someone posts something that I don't agree with, I refrain from "liking" or "commenting"...why can't people do that? I was shocked by her back & forth on it. I have not unfriended her yet on FB, but I did on IG and Twitter. And I SOOOOO LOVE your reason for not unfriending her....HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I applied for 2 jobs in FL WDW yesterday!!! Cross your fingers for those too. :) Hermit and WDW life is the way to go! Yes!!!
I like that it "works my brain" to read some of these classics. I read somewhere, once, that reading different genres activates different parts of your brain, so I like to tell myself this is good for dementia prevention or it makes me smarter or something. LOL!!
I could tell you ALL about Person in Common, but I won't put it in writing. Maybe I'll tell ya about it in February. ;-) Anyway, T and I are friends with PIC on FB and we frequently as one another if we've seen the latest installment. There is a LOT of eye-rolling and head-shaking. You know I don't spend a lot of time or energy gossiping or being mean--I do my best to be kind and friendly when at all possible, or to zip my lip if I can't--so if someone has activated my inner snarkiness, you can be assured, they've really had to work hard to get there. =P
Crossed and crossed. ;-)
Oh my--I can't wait to chat in February!!!
