Bout of Books Sign Up ~ Goals and Reading Progress

Bout of Books

I stumbled upon this AWESOME read-a-thon a little late, but I'm going to see what I can do with what's left of the week...it's just TOO good to pass up!!!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 19th and runs through Sunday, August 25th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 8.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Booksblog. –From the Bout of Books team

Time Devoted to Reading

I will be hopefully reading 100 pages a day. Anything more will be bonus.
I will be reading primarily at night now that school (work) is back in.
I will also be reading while on the treadmill or stationary bike at the YMCA.

My Goals
  • My goal is to read 500 pages by Sunday when the read-a-thon ends. Wish me luck!!

Books to Read

  • A Reliable Wife
  • The Best of Us
  • Whistling Past the Graveyard

Updates

Tuesday
Number of pages I've read: 18 (not off to a great start, but this was technically before I committed to the challenge).

Total number of books I've read:  less than 1

To play along, just answer the following 3 questions...

1) What are you currently reading?

Still reading A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick for my book club..I was rather close to completely giving up on it as  I feel like the author is just ridiculous with the sexual content (I'm not a prude, promise)...but geez that's getting old. A friend said a twist is coming and to stick with it, so I will. I am also still reading Raising Happiness by Christine Carter  for my  Parents Book Club at school. We meet on September 5 to discuss the first two chapters. I've also started reading  The Best of Us by Sarah Pekkanen just a teeny bit because (1) my aunt sent me an Amazon gc for my birthday and (2) I just couldn't wait any longer!! :)

2) What did you recently finish reading?
I finished reading (FINALLY!) The Happiness Project and gave it 3 stars. For me, it was simply "ok"...I suppose she has good ideas and all, but I cannot say I was strongly inspired by the book. I also finished Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea reading it last weekend...it's a 4-6 grade level book and I read it with hopes of conducting a lunchtime book club with some 5th grade students. Another great idea I discovered from one of the School Counseling blogs I follow. The book was great and full of excellent counseling topics.

3) What do you think you’ll read next?
I will read Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall next!! I had been waiting and waiting on the price to go down since my self-imposed rule is that I don't buy an e-book priced any higher than $9.99...well, my only exception is when I get a giftcard...so yay...Happy (early) Birthday to me!!

What are you reading?

Sunday, August 18, 2013

a long list of CURRENTS

Reading: Because of Mr. Terupt...I'll finish this today...it's for 4-6 grades and I wanted to read it first before possibly starting a lunch time book club with some 5th grade students. This book is not only EXCELLENT, but holds some great counseling topics as well.

Playing: play?

Watching: I typically do not watch TV and at this moment I'm watching cars  go by outside the front door of the scrapbook store where I am working today.

Trying: to find happiness. and some alone time. failing at both.

Cooking: Ick!! Not if I don't have to...though I did bake some yummy chicken breasts on Friday night.

Eating: just about anything...struggling with will-power these days and emotional eating is at an all-time high.

Drinking: gonna start soon...in fact, I even had a couple margaritas with my neighbor the other night...hey "anything to get through the day" is my new motto!

Calling: I text more than I call...but most recent calls were my friend Carla, O and my mom.

Texting: pretty much the same as above.

Pinning: scrapbook inspiring stuff and quotes.

Tweeting: only my location...I've gotten lazy with Twitter.

Crafting: did some fun vinyl projects lately, but now that school is back in session, there's no time for anything crafty.

Scrapping: trying to catch up on Project Life.

Doing: just going through the motions. living only the length of my life lately, not-so-much the width. *sigh*

Going: nowhere. unfortunately.

Loving: Ethan.

Hating: that summer is over.

Discovering: a lot.

Enjoying: sleeping.

Thinking: is it bedtime yet?

Feeling: not so great...truth be told...but the cards have been dealt.

Hoping (for): a quick school year.

Listening (to): Sirius

Celebrating: nothing.

Smelling: the yummy hand lotion I just put on.

Thanking: some friends for simply listening.  :)

Considering: riding the Wild Eagle 42 times on Friday!!

Finishing: being walked on.

Starting: my workday.

Thursday Randomness

*it's the 4th day of school. Is it to early to count days left?

*it frightens me to say that maybe, just possibly August has calmed down for me...I don't want to jinx myself though.

*no matter how early I go to sleep, I am ALWAYS tired at 5:45am.  :(

*getting 3rd & last shot in my knee today.

*it's been a whirlwind week with E not having school until Wed & then only until 11am, today until 12:15 and FINALLY tomorrow, his first FULL day. It's kept me running all over town meeting my mom to pick Ethan up. I'm ready for slightly calmer afternoons.

*I still want to move to Florida.

*I'm not sure how I managed to stay somewhat "up-to-date" on my Project Life earlier this year...I've been at least 4 weeks behind since summer began...which is when I should have had MORE time to work on it. Not so.

*On that same note, I don't know how I managed to get to the YMCA 2-3 times each week either...haven't been there since Saturday and won't get back there until THIS Saturday. Never enough time. Never.

*Ethan went to play @ a friend's house yesterday for one hour. I should have used that hour selfishly to read or scrapbook...stupid (but efficient) me...I vacuumed, swept, put clean sheets on Es bed, organized Es bedroom & got things ready for school today. No wonder I'm on edge lately...NO ALONE TIME FOR ME and it's killing me. I realize that ONLY I can fix this.

*It's been very difficult to be positive this month. I sure hope September is better...heck, I hope the rest of this month is better too!!

To play along, just answer the following 3 questions...

1) What are you currently reading?
I try really hard to only read ONE book at a time, but have pretty much broken that rule for all of 2013....I am still only 1/2 way through The Happiness Project, I've just started reading A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick for my book club..honestly, probably wouldn't be reading it otherwise, but it's ok so far. I am also reading Raising Happiness by Christine Carter in order to conduct a Parents Book Club at my school. I am REALLY excited about this unique opportunity for parent outreach. I hope it goes well and would love to do 2-3 more books this school year!!

2) What did you recently finish reading?
I just finished reading An Unexpected Guest by Anne Korkeakivi and gave it a measly 2 stars, which was probably generous...in my opinion anyway. For me, 2013 has been a disappointing reading year...I've read SO many books that just haven't been that great. Here's hoping my book fortune changes for the rest of the year...heck, that might also explain why I am 6 books behind on my reading goal. Ouch!

3) What do you think you’ll read next?
I am really anxious to read The Best of Us by Sarah Pekkanen...I've seen it on various blogs and recently added it to my "to-read" list when a co-worker raved about it. After re-reading the description, I'm thinking it'll be a good read for me right now. Can't wait to get to it.

What are you reading?
