~the baklava adventure~

~Dad and I made the baklava yesterday.

~Not sure why I've always heard it's so difficult. The recipe I had was rather easy so I guess the most challenging part of it all is just dealing with the filo dough because it is soooooo thin.

~All in all the baklava turned out good but we did make 1 semi-big mistake...you are supposed to slice the baklava BEFORE it goes into the oven because the dough becomes so crispy that it makes a complete mess if you cut it afterwards...we didn't remember to cut it up before it went in the oven...oops.

~Here are a couple pics...After cutting, before we poured the honey/sugar sauce overtop. (sorry it's a bit blurry)

Upclose shot

As for taste, it's pretty good but not as good as the baklava I found @ a local restaurant here...oh that's good!! I must find out their secret. LOL!!

~And on a completely unrelated note...this little gadget that Ethan has is the most wonderful little thing ever - especially when teething - it holds a slice of frozen peach (or other fruit) in a little mesh bag on the end and he chews/sucks on it which keeps him VERY occupied and happy. What a great invention!!!

I think the phyllo dough is why people think baklava is hard, especially if you don't bake often. It's so thin and all. I don't much like baklava, but yours looks good.

Look at you, showing up all those baklava whiners! ;-) And those little mesh food thingys (thingies? is there proper way to pluralize a nonsensical word?? LOL) are *awesome*. We used to love when parents would send them in to daycare with their babies!

I've only eaten it once and all I remember is being very sweet.

i so need to get one for my darling boy...yes he is 10 months old and should be eating fruit by itself by now however with no teeth that is not happening except for blueberries so i think one of those with some fruit is a must buy!
