I *heart* Geeks!

I ♥ Geeks! Yes, folks I do. I didn't always feel this way but I sure do now.

Cute Geek came over today & unfortunately the attempt to replace the Graphics Card did NOT solve my computer issue, however Cute Geek WAS able to access & backup all of my data which made me a super duper happy gal.

As for my computer, it's likely the Motherboard<--I think that is such a funny name...anyway... I had backed up my pictures fairly recently, but was unsure about my documents and had NEVER backed up my email (gasp!). I'm thankful for my 2nd chance!! Now the plan is to ship my PC back to HP (on their dime) where they will give it a full makeover & it will be shipped back to me within about 9 days. The bad part is all my data will be gone so I'll have to re-install all that crap, but heck, it'll be like getting a brand new computer. That's kind of awesome. This is all FREE for me thanks to having a mere 13 days left on my warranty. Whew!!! The backup set me back $93 though, which sort of irks me since technically it's HP's fault.

It also turns out that these Slimline computers have been somewhat notorious for faulty motherboards (hee) and so well, that sucks. Let's hope I get AT LEAST another year out of it. Did I mention I just mailed the last payment for it 2 weeks ago? Sucks! While HP has been very responsive in this process, I will only get 90 days of warranty on whatever is replaced/repaired and I think that stinks. That's like HP is saying their computers are only manufactured to last 15 months, at which point if something goes wrong, they claim no responsibility. I'm sorry, but if I fork over $800-$1000 for a computer, I certainly expect to get more than 15 months out of it.

I'm running out of options on computers...I've sworn off Sony (last computer) and I am now swearing off HP...although maybe I should only swear off the Slimline version as I've been pretty fortunate with full size HP computers in the past. My laptop is a Dell and so far, so good, but it's only about 6 months old & I don't use it much. I may have to go over to the dark side of Apple in the near future...

I would stick with Dell - have never had an issue. My current PC is Dell, my hubby's laptop and PC are Dell. And $800-1000???? Really? Holy CRAP!

I got my fully loaded Vostro Slim Tower for $459 with free shipping. CHEAP! It has 4 gig of RAM, a giant hard drive (thinking 320?) and is super fast and efficient.

Geeks are totally hot! :) I'm a big fan of HP's, but I've never had experience with the Slimline. Most of my friends with Dell have complained about the fans eventually keeling over which causes overheating issues. Apples are probably the way to go but I just haven't wanted to fork over the dough for one.

I'm on my second HP laptop in a row, and I've never had a problem. Maybe it's just that model that's glitchy like that. Glad you didn't lose your stuff!

I am an Apple person, and I would love for you to join me on the dark side. :-) We began the switch 4 years ago, and it was one of the best decisions ever!

Also, I could totally reverse your love of geeks if you spent one day with me at my main office. I tend to work with some highly "interesting" people. Of course, *I* rock, though. ;-P

Come to the dark side...I LOVE my MacBook. The best thing - I run "parallels", which gives me both Apple and Windows capabilities.

I love geeks too.

They are so helpful (and generally sweet).

Good luck with your computer.

I am so anti-Mac, it isn't even funny. There is NO WAY IN HELL I am spending that much money on a piece of technology. And? My friends with Macs have just as many complaints as those on PCs. Maybe not the *same* complaints, but just as many. I'll take my headaches for 1/3 the price thanks. LOL!

I have had fantastic luck with my Dell desktops. A good 5-6 years with all of them! I just recently (August) got a Compaq latop that I do like it so far (had a Dell before that & it was good too) but since it's less than 2 months old, I reserve the right to change my mind. I didn't buy it though. It was an early birthday gift because I did need a new laptop (my old one just didn't have a big enough hard drive or enough memory & it was also a refurb) and the Compaq was on sale for a can't-beat-it price.

Dawn!!! I am THANKFUL for you everyday!! Finally some negative comments about Apple & someone who actually knows people who have complained about Apples.

I was starting to think that all Apple owners signed some agreement that they would never complain about their machines...ever!

They are crazy expensive..yes indeed!

LOL! You just cracked me up! I maintain: Too much money to invest in something that ends up being obsolete in such a short period of time. =P For the price of a Mac, even if it lasts 6 years, you could just buy a brand new PC every two! For that much cash, I would rather have new. ;-)
