~yay~

~I got the job!!!

~I don't think the lady noticed that I was PG @ the interview yesterday.

~I fly to Ohio on Monday.

~I hope they don't freak out when they realize I'm PG.

~I feel sort of deceitful, but then, they aren't supposed to discriminate on pregnancy. I think if I would have told them, I would have been shooting myself in the foot....like with the last lady I told.

Yay! Congrats! You're due in about what, 2 months? I'm sure she could tell. Maybe they didn't care, or maybe they really liked you after the phone interview, and e-mails were sent around, and then, when she saw you were pregnant, she thought "Crap! I can't not hire her now because when she sues for PG discrimination there's written evidence that that's why we didn't hire her!" Do you get to work from home?

That is wonderful news!! I bet it's such a relief. And you know what? I am going to give this woman the benefit of the doubt. I bet she noticed you were pregnant & did not let that affect her decision because you are the right person for the job. Who knows? Maybe she was in your shoes once upon a time?

I'm pretty certain the lady didn't notice. We greeted each other, I had a portfolio in hand and we sat down. The table hid my belly. We'll see.

As for discrimination, I would never be able to access any emails within the company to prove discrimination if they didn't hire me.

It's a contract recruiting job. I have to work in an office, not at home. Pros & cons to that, but it's a job. The office is about 20-25 minutes away & approx 15 miles.

It's a govt security related outfit. I'll probably end up getting a Security Clearance eventually.

I'm also still VERY interested in the university job, but they aren't going to hire 'til Jan 08 and that doesn't help me now.

They also said they were going to take 2 wks to decide, but they called one of my references yesterday...so we'll see if that goes anywhere.

It would be a toss-up if they made me an offer...the university job would have excellent bennies, including free tuition, but the pay would not be as good as the contract job.

The university work is more appealing to me and I could completely quit SB since I wouldn't need their bennies anymore.

We'll see what happens...for now I have a job, so that's good.

:-)

Krystyn, it doesn't matter that YOU couldn't actually access the e-mails. They'd know they existed, they could be requested in discovery, people would have to testify about them. There are ALWAYS ways to get the info. I'm thinking, since they didn't ask about plans for maternity leave, maybe they didn't notice you were pregnant. . .do you start accruing sick and personal leave right away?

Unfortunately, contract job=no benefits. They are even paying me on a 1099 which I've never had done before. My contracts have always been run thru agencies who do all the taxes for me.

There is potential it could go full time, but initially it is a 6 month contract. I could be back in the job market in 6 months...never know.

HOORAY!!! That's awesome news!! I'm so glad... and don't worry if she noticed or not. It should make no difference in their decision to hire you. Pregnancy is a temporary condition (thank goodness)!!
