i need a day

~to myself.

~to LEISURELY shop and/or window shop. or just do things that are best enjoyed alone and UNrushed.

~I want to do some thrift store shopping. I keep reading about it on other blogs and surely there are some great things to find around here, but I never have time alone to go searching.

~I had plans to hit up the scrapbook store last night (with coupon in hand), the one I never go to and which recently re-located. O was to arrive home at 4:30ish and my plan was to bolt out the door as they close at 6pm. Instead @ 2pm, O's company decided that he needed to drive back to the job site 2 hours away on emergency and work possibly 'til midnight...there went my free/alone time.

~You see I cannot even go window shopping with E because over the past couple weeks he has developed a strong (and I mean STRONG) dislike towards his stroller and shopping buggies, in other words, he WILL NOT sit in one and it's quite the battle to get him in it and then buckle him in and then listen to him scream while all heads turn my way. Yeah, I'd just rather avoid it altogether.

~So until this child comes to terms with the fact that shopping is a part of his mother's life (albeit mostly grocery shopping), then I won't be taking him to any stores.

~In addition to the stroller & shopping buggies, he is also not interested in being in the bike trailer! Yeah, the BRAND NEW BIKE TRAILER that we JUST got and have used only TWO times! Great!! He better get thru this phase and quick.

~That means I'm virtually home bound when I'm alone with E. Kind of sucks cuz I like to go places, besides the drive-thru.

~The only time I ever get a sitter for E is when I'm going to school/work. I've never had a sitter come so I can do anything fun, but I think we've gotten to the point where I'm going to have to do that.

Although my kids and I are a bit older than you and yours (I'm a 40-something and my baby is now 6), I can totally relate! I dread shopping with kids. But hang in there! Now that my first-born is 13, I can leave his 2 brothers (8 and 6) with him and go to the store by myself! They complain, of course, but they'd rather stay with him than shop with me anyway. The advice I got about shopping when I was a soon-to-be mom was to go to the store with a goat. Buy everything the goat took off the shelves. Clean up any messes the goat made. That would closely approximate what it is like to shop with kids!
PS love your blog!

Ooof these are tough times. Too little walk reliably, too feisty to get in the pushchair. I have never enjoyed 'mouching' type shopping with my boys, I can manged focused, go in to 2 shops for 2 items and come home. Otherwise it's a nightmare of Don't TOUCH, don't RUN AWAY, stay whre I can see you etc etc etc.

But you must get out of the house with him. Staying inside is the fast track to getting very low about things....sob. I know how hard it is though. You need a little 'you' time.

Will he go in a sling? I think we've had this discucssion? Try a Scoot-a-Baby (google, it's a US brand) they are SO comfortable and great for fussy babes as they sit on your hip so they can cuddle you but still see everything. I can still manage my almost 4 year old in one, just about. And my heavy 2.5 year old is fine in it. Just a thought.

xx

Barb-thanks for stopping by. Yes, shopping with E right now would be quite like shopping with a goat, I am sure.

Spud-thank you! I will look into the Scoot-a-Baby. Doesn't it hurt your back though? I used the Bjorn with him ONCE and it was crazy uncomfortable for me.

Looks like I'll get a few hours to myself today though. O is on his way back for jobsite and off I go!

While mine is still at the age where he's easy to shop with, I didn't realize how much of a chore the whole dragging-a-car-seat-every-where-I-go was until yesterday when I was able to leave Baby P at home with dad for the afternoon. So I can only imagine your level of frustration. ugh.

My fingers are crossed for you about E passing through this phase quickly and I hope you were able to spend multiple hours alone and slowly browsing in stores. :)

Dawn-yes. thank goodness, although it wasn't terribly exciting, but still nice to be alone & free for a bit.

I never enjoyed shopping with my boys. They could be rather rowdy. When they got a little older, I could threaten a trip to "the Pink Store" (Victoria's Secret) as punishment if they didn't behave. Worked like a charm.

I'm glad to know my kids weren't the only kids who hated strollers. All those kids napping in strollers while their mothers shop used to make me want to go crazy. So not fair.

I know what you mean about a day to yourself. And, I think every mom goes through that fight with your kids to get in the cart/stroller scenario...I find bribery works best:)
